Tigh a Chaolais
Isle of Lewis
Tigh a Chaolais is situated on the Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles of the Outer Hebrides. The Isle of Lewis is accessible by plane or ferry. Planes operated by Flybe/Loganair arrive daily in the islands' main town of Stornoway from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. There are two large supermarkets in Stornoway. You can also travel to Stornoway by Calmac ferry from the mainland port of Ullapool. Alternatively, another Calmac ferry route takes you from Uig in Skye to Tarbert in Harris. Please see their websites for details. A guide price for booking two adults and a car on the ferry is £99 and a return foot passenger is £18.40 for adults and £9.20 for a child. Both Stornoway and Tarbert are in driving distance of Tigh a Chaolais in Great Bernera. Although the local council bus services run from Monday-Saturday, we would recommend that a car is very useful for travelling while staying in Lewis. Please note that the closest fuel pump to Bernera is at "Campbell's Lochs Services" in Cameron Terrace, Lochs.
